If you have had a new baby recently we, the parish community, would like to congratulate you and to offer you our support and interest. Should you wish to have your baby receive the sacrament of Baptism, we would like you to consider the importance of this step. In having your child baptised you are committing yourself to bringing up the child in the Catholic faith. The parents are the primary educators in the ways of faith. Baptism is not a once off ceremony: it is a permanent sacrament and, so, it should not be entered into lightly. If, after careful consideration, you decide to have your child enter into the Christian family we will be delighted to perform the ceremony for you. Please give us at least a month's notice as one of the priests will visit your home to discuss the ceremony and the implications of your decision. In the week prior to the Baptism a member of the Parish Baptism Team will also visit you to arrange readings and to chat about other details of the ceremony. Should you be unsure whether or not to have your child baptised, please feel free to contact one of the priests to discuss the issue in total freedom and confidence.
Godparents The godparents are representatives of the believing community who take on the responsibility of helping in the Christian upbringing of the child. Therefore it is essential that the godparents be practising Catholics themselves. Adult Baptisms If you are thinking about becoming a Catholic please make contact with one of the priests to arrange a meeting where you can chat about your intention. We will help you discern where God is calling you at this time. Should you make a decision to become a Catholic, we have a programme in the parish to help adults prepare for Baptism: it is called, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). First Holy Communion The programme of preparation for First Confession and First Holy Communion has got under way in Glanmire, albeit a little late! Last Sunday, 90 children from St Joseph's School, Riverstown came with their parents to enrol for the sacraments. The 'Do This In Memory' programme has proved a great success in Glanmire - and throughout the diocese - and the huge turn out of parents at the preparatory meeting at the school and, again, at the Mass, is evidence of how positively this programme is being received. New Inn School have their first 'Do This In Memory' Mass on Saturday next, 18th October in St Joseph's, at 6.00 pm. Scoil Naomh Micheal kicks off on Sunday next at the 10.00 Mass in St Michael's, Upper Glanmire.
Marriages To book your wedding please make contact with one of the priests or the parish secretary. At least three months notice must be given.
