May Procession – postponed

April 28, 2020

The annual May Procession will not take place this year due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Please build a May altar at home to honour this lovely month of May.

On Sunday May 3rd do place May altars on your windows and front gardens as per other years.

The daily rosary at the Marian shrine is also postponed for the moment. Instead say a family roasry at 7:30pm each night for the month of May.

This pious practice of honouring Mary during the month of May has been recommended by a number of Popes. Paul VI wrote a short encyclical in 1965 using the month of May devotion as a means of obtaining prayers for peace. In May 2002 John Paul II said, “Today we begin the month dedicated to Our Lady a favourite of popular devotion. In accord with a long-standing tradition of devotion, parishes and families continue to make the month of May a ‘Marian’ month, celebrating it with many devout liturgical, catechetical and pastoral initiatives!” Pope Francis, tweeted that the month of May is dedicated to Our Lady and it is“fitting” to start the habit of a daily rosary now. The rosary is a time-honoured prayer, so why not join in!
