Church Holy Days
There are six special feasts during the year which are called holy days of obligation. These have the same status as Sundays. This means that we are obliged to attend Mass on those days. This obligation devolves from the third commandment (‘Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day’) and is one of the six precepts of the Church (‘You shall attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation’). This obligation is a grave responsibility on all Catholics and should a person miss Mass on a Sunday or holy day, without good reason (such as illness), one is obliged to go to Confession prior to receiving Holy Communion.

The current list of Holy Days is as follows:

6 January Epiphany of the Lord*
17 March St Patrick’s Day (Mass times as on Sundays)
15 August The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary*
1 November All Saints*
8 December The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary*
25 December Christmas Day (See notice board prior to Christmas for times of Masses) *
