May Procession

April 29, 2025

The annual May Procession will take place on Sunday 4th May 2025.

This annual procession will leave St Joseph’s Church, Springhill next Sunday 5th May at 3 pm and proceed to the Grotto on the south side of the village of Glanmire.

Everyone along the route is invited to place altars in the window or in front of their house to honour Our Lady.

Our Grotto was modeled on the Grotto at Lourdes and has been developed and maintained by a dedicated committee of volunteers down through the years. They are always looking for new members, so if you have a touch of green fingers, or you just want to lend a hand, please contact the parish office. The committee also fundraises for the grotto once a year at the church gates, this weekend. Please give generously as you always do.

Also, every night for the month of May you are invited to join in praying the Rosary at the Grotto at 7:30pm. This pious practice of honouring Mary during the month of May has been recommended by a number of Popes. Paul VI wrote a short encyclical in 1965 using the month of May devotion as a means of obtaining prayers for peace. In May 2002 John Paul II said, “Today we begin the month dedicated to Our Lady a favourite of popular devotion. In accord with a long-standing tradition of devotion, parishes and families continue to make the month of May a ‘Marian’ month, celebrating it with many devout liturgical, catechetical and pastoral initiatives!” Pope Francis, tweeted that the month of May is dedicated to Our Lady and it is“fitting” to start the habit of a daily rosary now. The rosary is a time-honoured prayer, so why not join in!
